It’s a special type of sinker used with soft artificial lures. In comparison with a classic cheburashka, the standup version has a flat bottom surface, which creates more resistance underwater and slower sinking. This gives more time for lethargic fish to react and strike the lure.
Because of its special shape, the cheburashka sinks with the flat surface down, where it stays stationary, while keeping the hook in a vertical position. This effect can be enhanced by using floating lures. Such a setup reduces the risk of tangling in underwater obstacles and allows the predatory fish to take the lure directly from the bottom.
Just like a classic cheburashka, the standup version offers several advantages over a classic jig. One of them is simple weight changing without detaching the lure from the hook. Another advantage is a more natural lure movement, as there is free movement between the hook eye and the cheburashka wire. The larger eye makes it easier to tie it to the line or attach it to a snap.
