This type of jerkbait is becoming increasingly popular as fishing conditions become more challenging. The main advantages of this jerkbait are its narrow, slender silhouette and tight, delicate action, which does not create excessive vibration and does not scare cautious fish. They are effective in a wide variety of waters, and the standard working depth of jerkbaits is usually around 2 m, but this time the goal was to design such a lure for shallower depths—less than 1 m.
The body size of the HighCut SR is 63 mm, which is larger than the original HighCut. Its weight is 5.8 g, and the hook size is No. 8. The lure can be used with both a spinning and a bait finesse setup.
Jerkbaits are more sensitive to wind than round crankbaits, so a moving weight system was chosen to stabilize the flight and improve casting distance.
The weight rail design was minimized to improve initial action and responsiveness. The body is equipped with a Honeycomb Super HP structural design. High specific gravity tungsten beads allowed for reducing the weight used and placing it at the end of the thin tail, which significantly stabilizes flight even in strong winds and increases casting distance.
The shape of the lip and the low center of gravity improve recovery after collisions with rocks or other obstacles, preventing the lure from overturning or having an incorrect draft.
The working depth is approximately 40–100 cm, with a maximum dive of about 1.3 m. Controlling the working depth based on the rod tip height is also easy. With a fast retrieve, the action remains tight and high-frequency, but with a “twitch,” the lure makes wide side darts, which are especially good at provoking predators. The slow-floating type allows the lure to rise slowly, thereby avoiding obstacles.
The HighCut SR is a compact jerkbait that allows for very effective fishing in shallow waters—places where many other lures do not perform as well.
