The saltwater crocodile is arguably the most recognizable of the 24 living crocodyliform species (crocodiles, alligators and gharials). As the name suggests, they are found in saltwater, but more commonly live in rivers, deltas, estuaries and lagoons.
Reaching lengths of up to 6 metres, it is an absolute apex predator of its environment, with no true natural enemies other than humans. It preys on a variety of land and aquatic animals - including fish, reptiles, mammals, birds and even sharks.
